Testosterone for Libido
It is perfectly normal for your sex drive to decline slowly from its peak in your teens and twenties. Also, many factors other than age, from diet to stress, to sleep -- all can affect your sex drive or libido. Plus, it's hard to define exactly what a "low sex drive" is, because what one man considers "low" could be "normal" for another.
However, if you are just not "feeling up to it" lately, more often than you would like, you may have a decreased libido, and low testosterone could be the cause.
Of course, testosterone isn't the only factor driving your desire for sex and ability to perform. But if your testosterone level is low, it can significantly impact your sex life. The manufacturing plant for testosterone is in the testes.
As with any machine, as time goes on, the mechanism becomes less and less efficient. By the time you reach your 40s, testosterone levels start to fall by about 1% a year.
For some men, the decrease in production has little effect. But for many men, as you hit your 50s, 60s and older, you may actually start to feel that drop off.
Symptoms of Low Testosterone Include:
- reduction of libido or sex drive,
- a feeling of reduced virility or vitality,
- changes in mood,
- erectile dysfunction,
- decreased energy,
- reduced muscle and bone mass,
- and memory issues.
Sure there are a variety of factors that can cause such symptoms, but if low testosterone is the cause, testosterone therapy can help.
According to the July 2013 edition of "The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism," testosterone therapy has shown to dramatically increase sex drive, improve sexual performance, have positive effects on mood, boost memory, and increase strength.
