While some signs of stress are visible, like irritation, anxiety, frustration and depression, stress causes some unfavorable chemical changes inside your body. Stress and testosterone

Stress affects your health by causing chemical changes and hormonal imbalances in your body. When you are stressed-out, your body produces high levels of hormones like adrenalin and cortisol. Adrenalin increases your pulse rate and blood pressure, whereas cortisol has far more damaging effects on your health. Cortisol decreases the effectiveness of important hormones like testosterone, estrogen and HGH. With increased levels of stress hormones, testosterone for example, may not function effectively. This results in reduced sex drive, poor energy levels and general malaise. Studies have shown that higher levels of cortisol, lower the levels of testosterone in both men and women.

Stress lowers testosterone production and hence it also decreases your reproductive capability or fertility. Research has shown that stress can also lead to impotence, due to loss of libido in men. When your body has high levels of cortisol, there are chances that testosterone will become ineffective in the long run, as cortisol destroys the precursors for testosterone production. When you experience stress, you also tend to indulge in habits like overeating, oversleeping, smoking, drinking etc. These habits also cause hormonal dysfunction in your body, and further hamper testosterone production.

Fight stress, save your stock of testosterone

Stress can have harmful implications on your testosterone production and hence your sexual activity and quality of life in general. So, it is important to reduce stress in your life. All you need to do is to identify the major stress factors that you encounter, and decide on a technique, or series of techniques, to handle them, or even try to avoid them entirely.

In cases of extreme drops in testosterone levels, it is recommended that you consult a doctor and opt for a testosterone therapy if clinically indicated. You should maintain a healthy diet and get good, restful sleep of around 8 hours a day. You can also opt for yoga and meditation in order to relax and de-stress. Regular exercise, socializing, taking up hobbies have all been shown to lower stress levels.
