HRT and Hormonal Cycles In Men
Hormone Replacement Therapy, or HRT is usually thought of as a treatment for women. However, HRT is also valuable in bringing men’s hormones back into balance.
Women (and their male partners too!), are quite familiar with “hormonal cycles” and the often emotional and physical turmoil that comes with them. But did you know that men can be “hormonal” too?
Men may not be subject to the “monthly visit” that women are, but they are still subject to the whims of changing hormone levels. It all has to do with testosterone.
Testosterone level does not change on a regular monthly cycle like with a woman’s period. But, testosterone levels change throughout a man’s life, even throughout the day!
Do you wake up tired and irritable? It may not only be because you have not had your first cup of coffee! In the male “hormone cycle” your testosterone level is lowest in the morning.
Testosterone Levels Can Rise and Fall
It isn’t only on a daily cycle that your testosterone level fluctuates. Researchers have found that your testosterone levels change with the seasons! Every wonder why they say love is in the air in spring? It may have to do with increased libido and sexual attraction that occurs with higher testosterone. Science has found that a man’s testosterone level is highest in the spring months and lower in winter.
But perhaps the greatest change in your testosterone levels occur as you grow older. Your testosterone production peaks in your teens and twenties. After that it slowly drops off. By the time you are over 35 you may be experiencing the symptoms of Low-testosterone or Low-T.
The symptoms of Low-T include:
- Weight gain and loss of muscle mass
- Depression, anxiety and other mood swings
- Cognitive difficulty
- Disrupted sleep
- Erectile dysfunction and other sexual performance issues
Testosterone Replacement Therapy
The good news is, cycles or not, testosterone therapy can get you back on track. Testosterone replacement therapy begins with an evaluation of your symptoms and medical history. Then we will take a series of blood tests to determine your testosterone levels, along with other critical hormone levels such as Human Growth Hormone, (HGH).
If your levels of either or both hormones are found to be low, you may be a candidate for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).
BHRT uses hormones that are exact chemical and physical duplicates of the hormones naturally produced by your body. Bioidentical hormones are better tolerated, and more effective than synthetic hormones.
If you need hormone replacement therapy, the only way to get it, is with a doctor’s prescription. Do not be fooled by products and supplements claiming to boost testosterone, or contain growth hormone.
But, the only way to know if you should be prescribed testosterone therapy is to have your testosterone levels tested. Contact our offices today. If you are a candidate for hormone therapy, you may qualify for your first month’s supply absolutely free!
