Can Hormone Therapy Improve Bone Health?
Men with low testosterone, also known as “low-T,” are at a greater risk to develop osteoporosis. Also, a recent study finds that growth hormone therapy can improve long-term improvements in bone health. Hormone replacement therapy for men can strengthen bone, and help prevent the onset of osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis, or loss of bone density, is usually thought of as a problem in women as they get older. However, men as well as women, need to be concerned about weakening bones as they age, and both men and women can benefit from Hormone Therapy to reduce the risk of bone loss.
While both sexes can develop osteoporosis, women are at a greater risk simply because their bones tend to be smaller and weaker to begin with. Also, they tend to lose more bone density as they age, due to loss of estrogen. However, we now know that declining hormones in both sexes can lead to weaker bones, and the greater risk of severe fractures in older people.
A recent study has indicated that growth hormone therapy may be an effective treatment for osteoporosis.
Growth Hormone Therapy and Bone Health
This particular study targeted women, but it’s conclusions about the benefits of growth hormone therapy have implications for men as well. The study was published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, and it indicates that “older women with osteoporosis could get lasting benefits from a few years on growth hormone.”
The researchers studied women over a 10 year period. Before the start of the 10 year course of the research, it was noted that nearly 60% of the women in the study suffered fractures that could be linked to low bone density
Over the course of the subsequent ten year period in which the women were given growth hormone therapy, that number dropped significantly to 28%.
The authors of the study realize that more research is needed before HGH is approved as a direct treatment for osteoporosis. However, this is one of a growing number of clinical trials that point to the benefits of growth hormone therapy in preventing age related bone loss.
The Many Other Benefits of Growth Hormone Therapy
This latest finding which indicates the positive effect of growth hormone therapy on bone health, is just one of a growing number of studies that show the many potential “anti-aging” benefits of growth hormone therapy.
We are now coming to realize that many of the symptoms we think of as “just getting older,” are really caused by the impact of declining levels of HGH.
Age-related HGH deficiency can lead to:
- Lack of energy and fatigue
- Weight gain – particularly belly fat
- Loss of muscle mass
- Weakening of bones
- Disturbed sleep patterns and a related drop in testosterone production
- Loss of libido and other sexual performance issues
On the other hand, we also know that growth hormone therapy can:
- Rejuvenate cells and improve cellular growth and metabolism
- Help you lose weight and build lean muscle
- Improve immune response, and help you heal quicker and more efficiently
- Increase energy and motivation
- Improve your overall quality of life
But the only way to know if you can experience these and the many other benefits of HGH therapy is to have you hormone levels checked. Contact us today, and speak to one of our hormone replacement specialists; it could be the phone call that changes your life for the better!
