Could Your Heart Medication be Causing Erectile Dysfunction?
Did you know some medications could be causing erectile dysfunction.
If you are having trouble in the bedroom – maybe you need to check your medicine cabinet!
Statins are a very popular drug used to treat high cholesterol. Many men with high cholesterol also suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED).
Since statins, by their nature, lower “bad cholesterol” and fight clogging of the arteries, you would think that men taking them who have high cholesterol and ED, would benefit from improved blood flow, and have less erectile difficulty.
However, that has not proven to be the case, prompting medical researchers to determine if statin use could be causing erectile dysfunction.
Researchers with the University of California in San Diego who looked at ED and statin use in men, found that men on statins were twice as likely to report that their ability to achieve erections had become worse since taking the medications, than were their counterparts taking placebos.
Yet, if statins are actually causing erectile dysfunction remains controversial. Some other studies suggesting that in otherwise healthy men, statins may actually improve erectile function.
What we do know for sure is, that men taking statins usually suffer from other conditions such as clogged arteries and diabetes, which are known to contribute to ED. Furthermore, other known side-effects of statins include weakness and fatigue, which can also lead to a decline in sexual health.
What Else is Causing Erectile Dysfunction?
Medication that you may be taking such as statins, are only one of many medications that’s causing erectile dysfunction. Other causes can include:
- Stress or other emotional issues
- Tobacco use
- Alcohol abuse
- High cholesterol
- Heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Clogged arteries
- Effects of some cancers
As you can see from the list above, since ED can be a symptom of other serious underlying medical conditions such as heart disease or cancer, it is always critical that you see your doctor if you are experiencing frequent ED.
Latest Breakthroughs in Male Enhancement and ED Treatments
While there are many influences causing erectile dysfunction and 40% of all men between 35 and 55 will suffer with ED at one time or another, there are many treatments for ED available.
Unless you have been living on a deserted island for the last decade or so, you are no doubt familiar with the popular oral ED medications such as Viagra.
However, Viagra, and the similar ED medications – Levitra and Cialis – are not right for all men. In fact, men who take nitrates for heart conditions cannot take these drugs. Men who are on statins to lower cholesterol, are also likely to be taking nitrates for heart disease. These same men are just as likely to be diabetic, or have other conditions such as high blood pressure, all of which can make them unable to use the prescription drugs.
Even men healthy enough to take oral ED medications, report undesirable side-effects such as severe headaches.
Is there an alternative for such men? There certainly is! And, it is all natural, medically proven, and uses your own blood, so there are little or no side-effects. It is called Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP.
PRP concentrates the healing and growth factors in your blood into an injectable treatment. PRP for ED, as used in my own Gains Enhancement® procedure, improves blood flow to the penis, resulting in stronger, longer, and more sustainable erections.
