What is Andropause or Male Menopause?
Andropause, is often referred to as the male menopause and is the term used to define the natural decline of the male sex hormone, testosterone however, the androgen deficient condition can also be exacerbated by a lack of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), thyroid hormone, HGH Human Growth Hormone,
and other hormones which are critical to supporting a man's healthy
lifestyle. Each of these essential hormones plays an important role in the male
body. Without sufficient levels of testosterone, men may have difficulty building muscle, losing weight, staying mentally alert and competitive, achieving or maintaining an erection or enjoying a normal sex drive. Reduced levels of testosterone hormone and other hormones like HGH, can lead to premature aging, memory and hair loss, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis - brittle bones, lowered production of red blood cells and could contribute to excessive
prostate growth. "Hormones do not decline because we age; rather, we age
because hormones decline." To learn more about hormones and the aging process, visit Hormones and Aging.

Is Menopause in Men – Andropause Real?
Andropause is real. Though doctors have known about andropause since the 1940s, they’ve had no way of easily diagnosing patients. Thanks to modern blood-testing, physicians are now able to detect reduced testosterone levels in men and treat male menopause (hypogonadism). Unfortunately, unlike women who tend to
actively seek help for menopause symptoms, many men refuse to seek help for their
andropause symptoms, sexual health problems or erectile dysfunction. The gradual nature of hormone decline in men causes many men to delay in seeking medical help. The fact that many men remain fertile long into old-age also contributes to many men assuming their symptoms are attributable to old age as opposed to a hormonal deficiency that can be treated.
Hormonal decrease. Although aging males do remain fertile, the activity of the glands that produce male hormones decreases. As males age, the testes begin to produce less and less testosterone leading to hypogonadism or androgen defciency. The actual cause of the decreasing testosterone levels is still unclear and medical research continues to discover the cause of low t. Andropause or hypogonadism results in progressive muscle mass decrease, increase in fatty tissue especially around the belly, loss of libido and sexual desire, impotence (erectile dysfunction), decreased memory and focus, increased risk of Alzheimer's and cardiovascular disease, an increased risk of fractures due to osteoporosis, depression, insomnia, moodiness, lowered or abnormal sperm production. Male hormone replacement can help aging men experiencing the onset of Andropause or those already diagnosed with hypogonadism. Andropause: The Male Menopause
Andropause, also known as the male menopause or manopause, is the result of a gradual drop in testosterone which is an androgen, giving the condition its name. In many cases, bioidentical hormones can be part of the solution. When men get into
their early 30s, they begin losing testosterone at a rate of one to two
percent a year. According to the US Census Bureau, approximately 4-5
million men have symptoms of low testosterone levels and only 5-10% of
these men will seek treatment.
A recent men's health report analyzed male hormones and found that the testosterone levels
in most 70 year old men were 10 percent of the level in males that are
25 years old. By the time men are between the ages of 40 and 55 they can
begin experiencing symptoms of andropause and may require low testosterone therapy.
The Importance of Testosterone:
Testosterone assists the male body in building protein and is crucial
for normal sexual drive and stamina, and in producing erections.
Testosterone also contributes to several metabolic functions including
bone formation, liver function, prostate gland growth and production of
blood cells in bone marrow.
Other Factors:
While testosterone is declining in men, the Sex Binding Hormone
Globulin (SHBG), also called androgen-binding protein, increases in
levels. SHGB inhibits a substantial portion of remaining testosterone
from working; the remaining working testosterone is referred to as
bioavailable testosterone or active testosterone. Bioavailable testosterone declines with time,
causing gradual male menopause symptoms.

Andropause & Men's Health
Men’s menopausal symptoms appear gradually, usually over the course of a decade or more and it becomes a
very slow, insidious process that most men and their general physicians attribute to just "getting old". Beyond the adverse health symptoms, studies show that the decline of testosterone during andropause may put men at risk for cardivascular, heart disease, Alzheimer's, prostate disease, and severe bone loss - osteoporosis. Male menopause symptoms are also associated with high stress levels, obesity, poor nutrition, lack of a proper fitness
routine and environmental toxins a man's body is exposed to on a daily
basis.
Why Isn’t Andropause or Male Menopause More Well Known?
Because male menopause symptoms are associated with other health conditions due to high stress levels like hypertension, cardiovascular and heart disease; lowered nutrition and poor diet contributing to diseases like diabetes; lack of sufficient exercise or fitness routine leading to weight gain and obesity; and cancer-causing environmental toxins the male body is exposed to on a daily basis. Doctors are becoming more aware of male menopause or andropause, and although the condition has been found in medical literature since the 1940’s many general practioners lacked a method to properly diagnose or treat andropause. Because the symptoms are so gradual and vary from man to
man, andropause has historically been under-diagnosed and under-treated.
