Anti-Aging Regenerative Medicine
Stem Cell Therapy, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), Age Management Medicine
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is a cutting-edge
regenerative medical treatment designed to increase the healing ability and regeneration of soft
tissue such as facial skin, ligaments and tendons.
PRP therapy is being used by surgeons to attend to tendon and ligament injuries, especially in knees, hips, elbows and shoulders. Tendons and
ligaments are made up of fibers of collagen and when these fibers are torn, physicians refer to a ligament injury as a “pull”, “tear” or
“sprain” and a tendon injury as a “strain”. Both ligaments and tendons are vascular structures having blood vessels in them that bleed when injured. That is why when you injure a ligament or tendon they bleed internally causing
a bruise around the area of injury.
Proper tissue healing. It is the blood flow to the injured area that aids in healing, and it is the blood that carries platelets and growth factors that
allow for wound healing of the tissue by generating new collagen fibers. New collagen fibers need to be structured properly to enable the injury to heal correctly allowing the ligament or tendon to regain its former strength and flexibility.
How PRP can help in proper tissue healing. Sometimes, the normal healing process does not work effectively and instead of forming healthy collagen fibers, scar tissue forms instead. One of the reasons for the formation of scar tissue is not getting sufficent blood flow to the injured area that would
provide enough healing platelets and growth factors. The development of scar
tissue further reduces blood flow and regenerated capillaries and blood vessels can’t penetrate through the scar tissue in order to
provide needed blood flow to the injured area for better healing.
In the healing process, generation of small
blood vessels is called angiogenesis or neovascularization. When
scar tissue prevents blood flow to an injured area, that tissue will not have the opportunity to heal correctly. It is the prevention of scar tissue formation that determines how well a
ligament or tendon injury will heal.
When soft tissue injuries don’t heal, many doctors will prescribe anti-inflammatories (NASD's), over the counter pain
medications, topical ointments, creams and gels, supports and bandages, physical therapy,
massage, ultr-sound, acupuncture and even cortisone injections - but these will not
work because the injury is inhibited from healing due to scar tissue.
The medications and "surface" therapies are an attempt to treat the pain and reduce
inflammation but they don’t treat the underlying problem of scar
tissue, poor or blocked blood flow. The
result is, patients undergoing consecutive failed surgeries, living with debilitating chronic pain and disability.
PRP therapy is increasing becoming an important solution to the problem of scar tissue blocking neovascularization. In PRP
treatment, the patient’s own blood is taken with a simple blood draw.
Using a special centrifuge machine at the doctor's office, the patient's own blood is spun to separate
out and highly concentrate the platelets and growth factors that are essential
for tissue healing. This small amount of biological fluid with concentrated
platelets and growth factors is called Platelet Rich Plasma or (PRP).
Since the patient is using their own blood, there is
no risk of allergic reaction or rejection from a foreign substance being introduced into the body. PRP therapy is a completely
natural medical procedure using the body’s own platelets and healing growth factors. The expertise of the physician is required in delivering the platelet rich plasma to injured site in sufficient quantity to boost the healing process and overcome scar formation.
The physician uses an ultrasound machine to view the area within the ligament or tendon that is injured or has scar tissue formation. After identifying collagen fibers, scar tissue and blood flow
to the area - the physician uses a special needle to inject the platelet rich plasma directly into the injured tissue to enhance healing of the
collagen fibers. The platelet rich plasma is also injected directly into microscopic
tears to foster healing. Once delivered to the injured tissue, the platelets
and growth factors become
activated attracting other healing proteins and growth factors to the
injured area so healing and regeneration of the tissue can commence.
Stem cell therapy poised to transform medicine as dozens of clinical trials show early success
"Dozens of adult stem cell treatments are moving through clinical trials and showing early success."
PRP, platelet rich plasma therapy and stem cell therapy has been used in Europe for many
years and is now becoming more popular in the United State as more surgeons
become aware of its potential benefits for wound healing and rejuveantion. The concept of attracting blood to an injured site has been accomplished up to now by injecting an
irritant into the injured tissue area. The therapy is known as "Prolotherapy" and has been used as a therapy to increase blood
flow to injured tissue. PRP and stem cell therapy is different in that it attempts to get the specific healing factors from within the patients own blood to the
injured area. This allows for healing of tissue injuries, prevention of scar tissue and speeding up of recovery time from soft tissue injuries which normally take an inordinate amount of time to heal.
PRP therapy is a
great regenerative treatment option patients with the chronic injuries that never properly healed and for patients with acute soft tissue injuries which might otherwise take 3 or more months to heal and will have an opportunity to speed up the recovery
process and heal better. PRP has become very popular among sports medicine doctors to treat athletes who are under time constraints and
there been reports of professional athletes receiving PRP
therapy for sports related injuries.
PRP therapy can be used with for the following soft tissue injuries: Acute and chronic tendon injuries, tendonitis, tendinosis, tendinopathy, tendon tears, epicondylitis, ligament sprains, joint injuries

PRP and stem cell therapies using adult stem cells can help restore a person's quality of life and because adult stem cell therapies use a person's own biological material they are safe, simple, and the procedures are non-invasive.
AAG Health & Wellness is quickly becoming a leader in the therapeutic use of platelet rich plasma and adult stem cell therapies. Headquartered in Miami, Florida AAG Health Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medical physicians have specialized training and experience in adult stem cell therapy and PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma treatments).
Biological Treatments using a person's own adult stem cells and blood have been shown to heal soft tissue insuries and help restore normal bodily functions. Medcial treatments developed from adult stem cells are being used to treat once incurable diseases and serious soft tissue injuries. Adult stem cells and PRP have been used to treat diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, Parkinson's disease, Crohn’s disease, lupus, heart damage, Sickle cell anemia, brain and bladder cancer. It is an inspiration that these life-affirming advances are now available to improve people's health and lives.
